Louis Poulsen celebrates its 150th anniversary at Copenhagen's 3daysofdesign

Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign has been described as a festival for dreamers, doers and the design curious. In recent years its importance and influence has grown and its now generally regarded as the second biggest destination for design after Milan design week.

The festival, which this year featured 400 exhibitors from around the globe, takes place in showrooms, shops, streets, galleries, and various other venues throughout the Danish capital, and provides a platform for both emerging and established design brands from Denmark and beyond.

Emerging designers this year included Kasper Kyster, Helle Mardahl and the artist duo Oliver Sundqvist and Frederik Nystrup-Larsen who were invited by the 150-year-old luxury lighting brand Louis Poulsen to celebrate its legendary PH Artichoke Lamp.

This is the pendant light the company is perhaps most well known for, originally designed in 1958 by Poul Henningsen for the modernist Copenhagen restaurant Langelinie Pavilion.

Sundqvist and Nystrup-Larsen created a stunning installation entitled A Heart of Light which provided the focus for the Louis Poulsen anniversary celebrations.

Louis Poulsen: First House of Light focuses on the company’s archive of product design from legendary designers such as Verner Panton and Arne Jacobsen, as well as the contemporary designers that work with the brand today, including GamFratesi and Olafur Eliasson.
